Team mates are much less likely to take open shots, even when you hit them in rhythm in an open space. This also means it’s harder to rack up assists since you're running plays more regularly (which as a non-PG typically don't result in you dishing out the final pass), and there's less broken/freelance play to take advantage of cutters/open guys, etc. I believe this did not happen in 2k13, where that option put your team permanently in "freelance mode" from what I remember. You can't call plays / enter freelance mode unless you have the "On Court Coach" upgrade, I hear, which is a beastly 10,000 SP to unlock!Įven if you set "Run Plays" to "Off" in the options menu, it still runs these "automatic" play calls. Instead, I seem to spend a lot of time placing screens, doing off-ball movement, touch-passing on to team mates, etc. As a non PG player, this can be a real pain and very different from the feel of last year's My Career, as it’s harder to get the ball constantly and take over games individually (lots more frequency of the “Bad Call for Pass” penalty, if you call for it and break up the play). I’ve seen others praise this, but I’m struggling with it quite a bit so far. There is much less "freelance" mode, and lots more automatic play calling. Pacing yourself as a max minutes player is more important.

This year the stamina upgrade costs 2000 SP, and merely limits the rate of fatigue/effect of low stamina. It only cost 50 SP last year too, so it was a must-get early on and let you hit the ground running. You actually dread going up against these guys, which is pretty cool, I think.Īlso on stamina: Unlike last year there is no "Gatorade Prime Pack" upgrade which in the last version meant you lost no stamina in the 1st quarter (huge perk!). Playing against a "Bruiser" (stamina-draining upgrade) actually means something this year. Even with decent stamina (70-85) you can wear yourself down when playing large minutes (~40). My player certainly feels a bit more “cumbersome” this year on All Star. Kinda like you’re playing in “jello”, if that makes sense. I’ve also seen Chris Smoov (a well-known NBA2k youtuber) demonstrate pretty compellingly that in higher difficulty settings your character is less agile / gets caught in more stupid animations in situations where it’s a choice between doing, say, a good block and a one that fouls, etc. HoF scares me! I’ve heard it said that increasing difficulty just makes the opponent attributes higher, rather than make the AI more intelligent. No "Pro" difficulty option this year (at least on PC) so M圜areer is harder if you're newer to the game like me. M圜areer(Note: I play a 7”0 Athletic SF but have played about 20 games on various PGs that I tried out beforehand). It’s the same experience you’d be familiar with going back to 2k11, and possibly earlier. In M圜areer you can’t customize your player with introductions, pre-game routines and so on.

I mostly play Association/M圜areer, both of which are in the PC version, and arguably the two “core” modes. I don't even really know what that mode is like, honestly, so no idea how big an omission that is. There are various game modes missing: MyTeam being one of the major ones. If true, it means the PC version is a bit more grindy, since you can only earn SP in M圜areer mode. On consoles you can earn VC in a variety of ways and I think you can use that VC globally, right? I thinkthis also means that you can, f.ex unlock stuff for M圜areer by playing Association games, and so on. Instead of earning Virtual Currency (VC) which you can spend in a variety of different modes, you earn Skill Points (SP) which is only spent in M圜areer. I’d love for console players to shed some light on the differences between PC and console versions. You guys might know some/most of this stuff already, so apologies for any redundancy here. These are taken after around 15 games of M圜areer on All Star difficulty (specified because I think changing difficulty can dramatically change the experience)and about 8 association games (12 min quarters in each case). Here is a fairly extensive list of all the differences I've noticed so far, as well as some observations I could think of. Playing on PC is a bit different from consoles it seems, and a bit different in some minor ways from last year. This was originally intended as a reply, then it grew so big I figured a thread was in order. TIL reddit has a character count limit! S'cuse the wall of text.
